Lakeland 100
Lakeland 100
This is a long story about long runs but for now I’ll précis. Did the South Downs Way in 2012 (solo but was going to be a group thing) and then a (too) short time later attempted the Lakeland 100. Not good enough. Battered, thought I was doing ok but very likely I spent way longer than I thought looping about a small section of the map thinking I was somewhere else and then got to a checkpoint where I stopped. Retired. DNF. Done. Lovely Delamere Spartans took me in. Jump, a year on. Done more work – and thank you Jenn and Tom for a training recce run I’ll never forget xx – and go again.
This time it worked. All the way to the end. Even had time to to drop off a few gifts for the Spartans. A top event. Quite a challenge.
At some point I'll add the details here on shoe choice, lights, kit, poles, blister prevention, the “that man only had one nipple” story and a chunk of other stuff. Maybe the blister pictures from 2012’s failed attempt, if the world wants to see how these things can pa(i)n ou…t/ch. The first picture shows a funky little map (one of a series) I made to recce the run and consider those crucial time cut-offs. And my Garmin has one of several motivational quotes that accompanied me. Running is good. Simple and really quite zen at times.
