Eastbourne 70.3 triathlon
Eastbourne 70.3 triathlon
This was a fun one. A half ironman (not a 70.3 ironman as an Ironman is only the big one) as the other 50% of me is marshmallow. Not sure if my core is hard or soft but I get by. I didn’t do enough training and although I felt great to finish the start jump photo was more EU fishing directive – throw the (ones clearly lacking) porpoise back – than Nike advert. I made the triptych so I might not trip up again (if there’s a next time). An ill-prepared body but knowing my mind got me through. Sensible cycling and a cramp-managing run with a “you can do this relax” swim (with spares goggles, a Aquasphere swimsuit (rather than wetsuit) and neoprene calf guards for buoyancy rather than warmth and knowing when and where the current was) got me there. Not fast but not a DNF either.
Great weather and excellent organisation (and running along my home seafront) made it a very special day. I recommend it (and do hope the weather behaves for you – nothing worse than training for a triathlon and ending up with a duathlon!).
